Around 11o?clock this morning the central belt of Scotland was affected but a sudden but heavy snowfall. Traffic on the M8 heading towards Glasgow and Edinburgh around the Harthill area was reduced to aljost one lane as blizzard conditions appeared aljost out of now where. Snow fall like this are not uncommon in Scotland around this time of year but are not usually seen at low levels. |

Snow causes road closures across Scotland |

Drifting snow in the Highlands of Scotland is continuing to keep roads closed in the Grampian and Northern Regions. Police in the Grampian area are advising drivers to stick to main roads or avoid travelling if possible as road closures reach double figures. In the Northern region the snowfall has proved less hazardous although there are still road closures, the A830 Lochailort to Arisaig and Fort William to Mallaig is closed due to heavy snowfall as is the A939 Grantown to Forres road. |

Sheffield gets the go ahead |

Plans for building the UKs biggest artificial snow slope in Sheffield has been given the green light by the local councillors. The 80 million pound project will see the creation of a 300m long slope with colour coded runs, transportation will be provided up the slope by a gondola and accommodation will be in alpine style chalets situated nearby. |

Glencoe open for some weekend skiing |

Glencoe plan to open at 8.30am this Saturday, with not just one lift as is usual for the first day of a resort opening, they plan to open the whole mountain as far as the lifts are concerned. On Saturday Glencoe plan to open Mugs Alley, Canyon, The Wall, Happy Valley, Main Basin, Spring Run and The Fly paper feed by the whole lift network. Lifts will open tomorrow (Friday) depending on demand and the weather situation.
