{josimage}Founded on the Helvellyn hills in the Lake District by the Lake District ski club in 1936 is the ski area know as Raise. Access is via a 60 minute walk from the roadside near Glenridding twenty miles south of Penrith, not ideal for those wearing ski boots or with small children but well worth the walk due to the varying runs that Raise has to offer.
With only one ski tow just under ? mile long and up to an altitude of 883m, Raise can provide an extensive ski area when the snow conditions are right. Ok so it?s not the Cairngorms or the Alps but remember we are in England, where they are lucky to get any snow at all.
With the use of snow fences Raise manages to create a total of eight runs all varying in terrain, Blacks and Reds provide great skiing for aggressive skiers and boarders but the lack of any easier slopes as well as the long walk keeps the crowds away from the mountain. |
