Harwood Common is situated on the north side of the B6277, between Middleton and Alston, only a little drive along the road from Yad joss making it ideal for a day trip, spend the morning here and the afternoon at Yad joss. The area consists of two 500m rope tows placed in a gully making an ideal snow trap when the snow comes. It is quite often possible to ski from November to the end of the season here due to its sheltered location, giving it possibly the best snow record of all the English resorts.

The Harwood Ski Federation was founded by integration of the members of the three clubs who historically shared the running of a snow sports site at Harwood in Upper Teesdale, adjacent to Cross Fell; the highest point of the Pennines. Facilities are provided primarily for downhill, telemark skiing and snowboarding but with the recent change in access rights there is also excellent terrain for both cross country and ski touring . |
