Welcome to the start of a new season at Ski-Allenheads. Let?s hope it?s as good as last year - and arrives earlier. We are enthusiastic to carry on for another year and have new volunteers to help run the tows. All we need is for you to rejoin, and tell your friends about us too.

You may be wondering (but I hope you?re not) whether it?s worth rejoining. Let me give you five good reasons.

Only a month ago I really thought I?d be writing to say the end was nigh. Expenditure was greatly exceeding income and it looked as if the best efforts of the committee were up against another mild, snow - free winter. Well, the weather gods were kind (they must be the Norse gods) and sent us three weeks of good snow, only to take it away again rather too quickly when we were hoping for one more weekend. Never mind, we had seventeen days of good skiing and are solvent again for another year. More importantly many new people as well as existing members enjoyed the best continuous conditions we?ve had for years. You can see some pictures on our website if you missed being there.

Yes, this is the BNSC newsletter and the club’s name has not officially changed. It’s just that after a good deal of discussion and advice we’ve decided to play up the Allenheads connection and play down the Norwegian connection, with its associations with cross country skiing.

In fact there was much interest in snowboarding as well as downhill last season and this seems to be the way things are going, if the club is to survive and start growing again. We find encouragement on all sides but of course are dependent as always on snow, money and the willingness of new people to help run the club.  We could certainly use more people to help train and run the tows this season.
